The project

In early 2020, Dudley approached Vertex Intelligent Data with a requirement to implement a comprehensive reporting solution across their Liquidlogic Social Care system. The project encompassed reporting needs in Adults (LAS), Children's (LCS), and Finance (ContrOCC). Our team took on the challenge, working closely with Dudley to develop a start-to-finish solution that would meet their reporting requirements effectively.

"These advancements...

allowed us to trust the data our reports were giving us."

To start, we utilised SQL Server Management Studio to create views of key data areas, including Contacts, Assessments, Services, Looked After Children, Children in Need, Missing Children, and Safeguarding. These views involved developing complex procedures and functions. The extracted data was loaded into tables every night for easy access and efficient data processing.

Using Microsoft Mobile Reports and SQL Server Reporting Services, we developed a range of reports to address Dudley's requirements. This included basic activity and productivity reports, providing high-level figures. We also incorporated statutory requirements such as SALT and Annex A into the reporting suite. In addition, we built Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and a Data Quality scorecard to ensure a comprehensive and visually appealing

front-end presentation.

"The extracted data was loaded into tables every night..."

To enhance finance reporting, we collaborated with an external contractor with expertise in the field. The contractor oversaw and approved all finance-related development, ensuring alignment with Dudley's specific requirements.

After developing the initial set of reports, we actively sought feedback to customise and refine the reports to their specific needs. This iterative process ensured the reports aligned with Dudley's objectives and provided actionable insights.

To empower Dudley's in-house performance team, we provided training in SQL skills for data analysis and conducted training sessions on working with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Mobile Reports. This knowledge transfer enabled Dudley's team to effectively utilise and maintain the reporting solution.

We provided ongoing maintenance support, monitoring the overnight data loads and promptly addressing any required amendments. This ensured the reliability and accuracy of the data processing.

In our advisory role, we are currently guiding Dudley on leveraging their existing data infrastructure to gradually migrate to a Power BI reporting interface. We are working closely with Dudley to develop an implementation plan for Power BI, ensuring a smooth transition and improved reporting capabilities.

The result of our collaboration is that Dudley now possesses a robust and comprehensive reporting solution covering their social care system. The reports provide essential high-level figures, comply with statutory requirements, and offer valuable insights into the performance and data quality of their social care system.

Furthermore, the training provided to Dudley's in-house team has enhanced their SQL skills and proficiency in working with SSRS and Mobile Reports. Our ongoing maintenance support ensures the reliability and accuracy of the overnight data loads.

Looking ahead, the guidance we provide on transitioning to Power BI sets the foundation for future reporting advancements. Dudley will be able to leverage a more interactive and visually appealing reporting interface.
